What the Charity Commission API Checks

This tool queries the official Charity Commission for England and Wales public API in real time. Every result is live data — not a cached copy — so you always see the current registered status of any charity in England or Wales.

Registration status
Whether the charity is currently registered, removed, or under investigation by the Charity Commission.
Financial data
Reported income, expenditure, and net assets from the most recent annual return — updated annually.
Trustee details
Names and appointment dates of current trustees (including chair designation where declared).
Governance flags
Gift Aid status, trading subsidiary, land/property ownership, and grant-making classification.
Contact information
Registered address, phone, email, and website as submitted to the Charity Commission.
Area of operation
Countries and regions where the charity operates, as declared in its registration.

How to Interpret the Results

A Registered status means the charity is currently recognised and active with the Charity Commission. A Removed status means the charity has been deregistered — it may have wound up, merged, or been removed for compliance failures. Always check the registration date and removal reason if a charity shows as removed before engaging with them.

Financial figures are self-reported by the charity in their annual return. Very small charities (income under £10,000) may not be required to submit full accounts, so financial data may be limited. For charities with income above £25,000, audited or independently examined accounts are required and available on the Charity Commission register.

Charity numbers in England and Wales are typically 6–7 digits. Scottish charities use the prefix SC and are registered with OSCR, not the Charity Commission — this tool covers England and Wales only. For Northern Ireland charities, use the CCNI register.
